When Michael and I found out that we were first pregnant, baby names immediately started bouncing around in my head. Kinsley, Brilee, Jaxs, Meekah were just a few. As I shared these ideas with Michael, I could see that naming our kid was not going to be an easy task. So, to save a lot of "troubles", we decided to wait until we found out if she would be a he or a she.
After finding our we were having a girl, the name game started again. I knew I wanted something different and unique. Michael wanted something with great meaning, different, but not too off the wall. Needless to say, he was not "agreeing" with the names I suggested. He would say in an English accent, "We are not from England." Oh my, oh my, oh my...
On our way to dinner one night, Michael said that he had an idea for a name. So far, he hadn't given any suggestions, but always had some kind of "comment" about mine. Then, he said the name Adalyn. At first, I wasn't so sure about it. It sounded like a nice name with a ring to it. It was different. Then, he proceeded to talk about the meaning, and he seemed really excited about this name.
The next day, the name Adalyn was starting to grow on me. I guess I finally came to the conclusion that I was not going to get my Kinsley. I think this was the first time I couldn't beg or "whine" my way into getting what I wanted. :) Then, I thought about how special it would be for Michael to name our first child, seeing that he waited 37 years for this moment in life. Ha Ha Ha! So, I took one of Adalyn's ultrasound pictures, found a frame that said, "I Love Daddy", put her name at the top, and wrapped it up as a gift for him. When he opened his "prize", I could tell that that was a special moment for him. He turned to me and said, "So, it's official. Her name is going to be Adalyn."
So, this is how Adalyn was named. Her name means noble/brings happiness. We decided that we would call her Addy while she's a lil, but she can decide what she wants to go by when she gets older. I can tell already that she is going to be daddy's lil Addy.
*We haven't decided on a definate middle name just yet. I'm sure there will be another long story to share for that.
